Recfish is a project led by the University of California’s Institute for Mexico (UCMEXUS), the University of California Riverside, Mexico’s national fishing agency (CONAPESCA) & the Gulf of California Marine Program. In collaboration with these groups, TASON has designed & developed Recfish, an android application to help Mexico’s fishers record their landings in real-time. TASON will also soon begin linking the application to over 100 GPS trackers that are used by the institute’s science teams & fishing cooperatives all along the Pacific coast of Mexico. The long-term vision of the project is to use mobile phone technologies to help increase fishing efficiency whilst reducing over-fishing practices.
